Lizzie Borden was tried and acquitted for the axe murders her father and stepmother in 1892. The murder weapon was actually a hatchet. The stepmother was killed by receiving 19 direct hits to the back of the head in her bedroom. The father was killed hours later downstairs when he struck 10 or 11 times with a hatchet- most likely when he was asleep. The investigators found a hatchet with a freshly broken handle in the cellar and believed it was the murder weapon.  If you were the first officer on the scene what would suggest a hatchet was used in the murders when you looked at the bodies? (3 points)  Based on your experience, describe how the evidence let you know two important characteristics in the psychology of the killer?
